A well-built accessory setting machine can work for many years with a few simple maintenance habits. Many faults start with neglected details: a misaligned die, a dry shaft or an unsuitable force setting. These tips apply to electric, motor-driven and manual presses.
1. Check die alignment
The upper and lower dies must share the same axis. Misalignment can bend the fastener, tear the material and damage the die. Perform trial settings whenever you change dies and at the start of each shift. On manual presses such as the KM 650, the rear Allen screw allows centre and height adjustment. Tighten it again after adjustment.
2. Match the force to the material
Electronic models such as the KM 400 and KM 400K allow adjustable setting force. Excessive force crushes accessories and puts unnecessary strain on mechanical parts. Start low on thin fabric and increase gradually until the fastener seats correctly.
3. Keep moving parts clean and lubricated
Shafts, bushes and slides collect fabric dust and loose fibres. Clean them weekly with a dry cloth and apply a thin layer of the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer. Excess oil attracts dust; small, regular applications work better.
4. Store dies correctly
Keep unused dies in a dry, labelled box rather than loose on the machine or workbench. Lightly oil dies before extended storage to help prevent rust. Organised storage also saves time.
5. Check the electrical supply
Use the machine’s specified voltage. A 380V model cannot simply replace a 220V model on the same supply. Extension cables must have an adequate conductor size; voltage drop can reduce performance. Inspect cables and pedal connections for crushing and damage. Disconnect power before maintenance, and leave electrical repairs to qualified personnel.
6. Listen for unusual noise and vibration
Learn the machine’s normal sound. New rattling, rubbing or vibration can indicate a loose screw or insufficient lubrication. Stop and investigate early rather than forcing the machine to continue.
7. Use original spare parts
Original control boards, dies and mechanical parts help maintain the machine’s designed tolerances. Kanmak supplies the KM 10 electronic board, KMP 11 motor-driven press board and other spare parts.
