Fabric-covered buttons give furniture, upholstery, curtains, jackets, dresses, bags and accessories a distinctive finish. Covering a button with the product’s own fabric provides a matching colour and helps distinguish the finished item. This guide explains the process and which machine suits each type of business.
How are covered buttons made?
The process has two stages:
- Cutting: Cut fabric or leather into circles using a cutting die matched to the button size.
- Covering: Place the cut material and the metal button components in the covering die, then press to close the button.
Each button size requires its own die. Changing the dies lets you produce different sizes on the same machine.
Manual: KM 7000
The KM 7000 Manual Button Covering Machine uses a lever for every operation and requires neither electricity nor a compressor. It supports button sizes 18–60. Cutting and covering can be carried out in a compact workspace.
Best suited to: Boutique manufacturers, tailors, upholsterers, samples and small batches.
Semi-pneumatic set: KM 7100
The KM 7100 set consists of one manual fabric cutting machine and one pneumatic button covering machine. Cutting is manual, while air pressure powers the covering stage. Faster covering saves time during repeat production.
Best suited to: Furniture, upholstery and textile workshops with regular orders.
Fully pneumatic set: KM 7200
Both the cutting and covering machines in the KM 7200 set operate with compressed air. This reduces physical effort and helps the operator maintain a steady production pace throughout the day.
Best suited to: Factories and contract button manufacturers handling high volumes.
Pneumatic models require a compressed-air supply from a compressor.

Tips for better results
- Fabric thickness: Very thick fabric may not fit the die. Metal may show through thin or transparent fabric; add a lining when needed.
- Pattern placement: Centre the motif when using patterned fabric.
- Trial production: Make several sample buttons before starting a large batch.
